Featured Course – Social Transformation and Self Awareness
A weekend course exploring the connection between societal change and personal growth
We are pleased to announce that this spring, Joe Litven will be visiting the UK to teach the following course between Friday 17th and Sunday 19th April at the Bristol Shambhala centre
The world is in sad shape. In the media, news reports about terrorism, environmental degradation and other social ills form our constant diet. These are challenges we are all living through. How to change and transform society for the better?–that is the nagging and difficult question.
This program will explore the interface and necessary connection between societal change and personal growth, a topic discussed by many great thinkers and political activists, such as Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela. We will take as our reference point the Shambhala teachings on society and societal neurosis and the Mahayana Buddhist teachings on open heartedness and unlimited generosity. The meditation practice of mindfulness-awareness will be our anchor.
