In the Shambhala teachings, those strategies which we use to close off from our experience in an attempt to feel safe and avoid the brilliance and challenges of life are referred to as the cocoon.

'The way of cowardice is to embed ourselves in a cocoon, in which we perpetuate our habitual patterns. When we are constantly recreating our basic patterns of behaviour and thought, we never have to leap into fresh air or onto fresh ground.' Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche – SHAMBHALA - The Sacred Path Of The Warrior

During the talk and following discussion we will look at what keeps us stuck in the cocoon and ways of opening to fresh air without resorting to self-aggression. The talk will be led by Pete Bailie who has been an active member in Shambhala for over ten years. He is a Meditation Instructor and part of the Teacher’s Development Group. Professionally he is a coach and trainer in communication skills for clients in universities and business.

The talk will take place at the Thursday evening Open House from 7.30 to 8 45 pm on 21 November at the Quakers Meeting House, 126 Hampton Road, Redland, BS6 6JE – you’re welcome to come online or in person
