Day Retreat - How to Think in Front of a Tiger
“If your mind becomes calm,
You can think in front of a tiger.
If you can think in front of a tiger,
You will surely succeed.”
Mencius 372-289BC
Very few of us will come face to face with a real tiger but everyone confronts challenges and obstacles of varying sizes and degrees of seriousness on a regular basis. We all experience fear. What is the ‘tiger' in front of you right now? Is it money or relationship difficulties? Is it fear of losing your job? Or maybe it’s just an overall feeling of anxiety.
In this day retreat we will investigate how meditation helps us stop running away from our fears and begin to make friends with them. By doing this we can learn to “think in front of the tiger.”
Jane Hope is a founding member of the London Shambhala Meditation Centre and has taught for many years in Europe, Reino Unido, North America and Ukraine. She has published three books and now spends her time studying Celtic mythology and painting scenes from the old Welsh myths.
